Closer to home, the horrific site kicked long-forgotten memories to the forefront and launched a new direction in life for Woodstock author Jay Wenk, whose book, Study War No More: A Jewish Kid from Brooklyn Fights the Nazis, is in local bookstores now.

“In a flash, watching that building come down brought me right back to my war,” Wenk said in a recent interview. It was clear Wenk, 84, was talking about World War II.
